9-to-5 # Smarty Pants

One of the comments most commonly used by my boy when I (try to) make sarcastic comments is: smarty pants (BTW I am funny, he just doesn't get it...;).

I think I embraced that description so much that I recently went totally crazy for pants... in a smart way. How smart? Well.. I got myself 2 pairs in Penneys which I'm totally loving, they were of course the cheapest trousers I ever got and I also wear them every possible way since.

Paired with a shirt or blouse with low heels are perfect for work (sooo comfy) / paired with flats, tee, little jacket & funky accessory are perfect for shopping / with sandals, top and some sunnies allow me to enjoy the sunny weather without going all bare and when I feel like going 'mad' I pair them with high heels, a bit of sparkle, pretty clutch and head out.... How about that, smarty pants?

The (almost) Royal Wedding

Sadly, the first one of the weddings is behind me. Why so? I had a great time and soooo much fun. It was my first visit to the oh-so great Dunboyne Castle and I have a feeling that it's not my last one... there're reasons people talk about it - it's fab.

The weekend couldn't have happened without some disasters - for me, mostly toilet-related... Yep, I got stuck in a dress in a pub toilet, I was seen half-naked by a stranger (what the hell was he doing outside ladies' window?!) and I managed to actually go into a wrong toilet... I know, I can master embarassing moments.

Still, nothing took away from one of the funniest parties ever. And of course my dress, which I nearly ended up not wearing and which I could hardly breath in half way through the dinner. Apparently you must suffer if you want to be beautiful, I'm telling you, it was still worth it -> loved it.

White is the new black

H&M were setting about to change their displays this morning, when I passed on my way to work. By the time I was on my way back the windows have been changed to... white.
It's not that it's dominant - there's nothing to dominate over as there's nothing else but white. Personally, I always considered it a rather weddingly colour and we all know - no one looks good in a white dress... But since the trends don't give us much choice ;) and the sunny weather made me feel very summery, I gave it a go.

I pretty much put my outfit together when still in a charity shop :) it has to be one of the most cost-efficient outfits ever! at least I won't feel guilty if I never 'get' to wear it ;)

(don't mind my face & hair-it's been a looong week already)

Dress - Twenty One (thrifted)
Shoes - Dunnes
Bag - Gold by Giles Deacon (thrifted)
Belt - dunno...

Not really a Snow White effect but let me sort my head out (inc make-up) and that could look alright on a hot summery evening... I can't wait.

'...because her hair was black and her eyes were blue'

I went for a little trip to Galway with my boy last Sunday (that song always lifts my mood, is that wrong?!). We planned a nice picnic with some lovely food, sitting on a grass in sunshine, reading a book & relaxing... We surely didn't take Irish weather into account. I know, I know it was scorching hot in Dublin, everyone told me... it was bloody freezing in Galway though. I didn't even feel like taking photos (not like me at all) and we spent a vast majority of time indoors.

There was a significant 'fashion moment' during the trip though! (I almost forgot). We took a train (is there a cooler way to travel nowadays?! I probably sound like a county girl but I love an old train journey) and on the way back, a lady has joined us, sitting down on the opposite seat. She was anywhere between 70 and 80. OMG she looked fantastic! Very smart, pearl in the ear, high heeled Lanvin-style ankle boots, fab jewellery, amazing perfume (I had to stop myself from asking what it was, it was just enchanting!) and of course some very fancy shopping bags... well we certainly do train journeys in a different style lady (see below for Anna - as a Galway girl... ;)

Dress hunting

Anyone close to me realises what I've been going through recently when trying to find a dress for my boy's family wedding. Ok so it's not even a real wedding. I mean it is real but the thing is, they're already married... so it's like a late party for the family (as far as I can understand, it's not easy to get info out of my boy sometimes). As vague as a description of the event was, it was not nearly as enlightening as the clarification of the dress code (me:'what will I wear?' boy:'wear that colourful dress' me:'I don't think it's suitable' boy:'I like it' -> read that conversation over at least 20 times and you might begin to understand how lost I was when trying to figure out what's right to wear; can't really blame him, he's a man after all ;)

I went through classy, right to dressy dresses, moved over to casual, flowery... literally everything. I liked nothing. 4 dresses have been bought. 4 of them have been brought back. If you asked me, I don't think I'm fussy. Really! It's just everything is either flowery (Warehouse), minimalistic (Zara), too girly (H&M), too pricy for what u get (FCUK), too old (Karen Millen), too cheap-looking (other places..) and so on. I wanted it to be a little bit dressy but not full on taffeta bows, light and girly but without ruffles and tones of lace, a bit sexy but actually covering my ass.. and so on. As you can imagine, my search went on forever. The closer I thought I was to getting something that would be suitable (although I still don't know how formal the whole thing is going to be) the worse my choices seemed to be.

Desperate, I was making my way to Covet last weekend as my last chance. This is when I realised I haven't been to the Loft Market in a while. Although I was aware that splurging a couple of hundred on a designer dress was just not going to happen for me (couldn't possibly, I didn't have the couple of hundred) I thought it wouldn't make sense if I didn't at least have a quick look around.

And this is when I found a stand full of vintage dresses from Jean Cronin. Her amazing clothes and accessories totally blew me away and putting those delicate things on was like a dream. I got my first proper, amazing vintage dress and I couldn't be happier with my choice (and the price!).

If you're looking for something special, the Loft Market is one of the best places to head for and if you're looking for something truly amazing - talk to Jean.

I know a dress like that deserves proper photos but I just wanted to be able to show it off asap ;) and yes I know, these shoes just won't go with it and yes, I'll make sure they won't see my underwear at the wedding too!

The launch of Eve

I have recently been invited by WHPR to the launch of Diageo's newest drink for women - Eve. I headed to the Odeon with my boy for an evening full of style! The place looked great, we arrived just before the fashion show had started. All models were styled by Angela Scanlon who did a fantastic job, I loved the looks and they really did seem to reflect the style of the drink!

Eve is a really really tasty fresh drink which I just have to make all my friends drink (loved it). The whole event was really cool, there was a designer handbags giveaway after the show (buu I wasn't the lucky one) and I loved the display in the middle of the runway full of bags, shoes and girly things.

I also got to see Alesha Dixon and even got a picture with her (actually loads of pictures cause my boy had problems operating my camera so I must have taken up 10 times more time than other people did! isn't he the best? had to make sure I have a proper photo ;)

Overall a great night so huge thanks to WHPR for the invitation and I'll surely enjoy Eve very soon :)

Take a 'wider' look

I am totally in love with the wide leg trousers this season. I kept my eye out hoping that I'll soon find a pair that was destined for me (what? a girl can dream..).

Somehow, I let myself believe that I found it yesterday. H&M, reasonably priced, nice colour, even work suitable but with enough edge to carry them off nicely out of work. I felt content. Ahh what an easy life, stumble into a shop just few meters away from my office and find a perfect pair of trousers. Isn't that just great?

I got home, quickly threw the trousers on and snapped few pics before running off to do some grocery shopping.

I was now going to proudly introduce you to my new BF and possibly spring/summer 2011 staple. After checking out yesterday's photos, I here introduce you to... disastrous pants.

(I also went way over the top with colours!)

Trousers and cardi-H&M
Top-Dunnes

Ring-F21
Necklace-Primark

I wasn't convinced about the length and only now I realise that it's just not right. The fact that the crease stretches right on my tights is totally wrong too. And more than anything-my legs look wide! yes, wide! not like cool wide-leg-trousers wide but fat. And that is very unusual for me. My stomach can look fat, so do my ankles.. actually, I won't be getting into that, my point is: I'm bringing them back.

Wide leg trousers advice:
  • they should be wide legged but without making your legs look wide (if that makes any sense)
  • watch the length or you'll look like your place got flooded..
  • they have to be high waisted and u must wear them over things - see my pics? my legs look 3/4 shorter than normally because the top wasn't tucked inside
  • take photos after buying them (when you're still high from shopping) and look at them the next day (before labels are off and you're v. sober ;)
  • let me know where to head for that perfect pair that wouldn't break the bank..

12 months 12 countries # 4 -> London/UK

Some would say that this is a little bit of a cheater. Ok, so it was a business trip BUT it was not just a few hours in and out sort of thing. 3 full days in London city must count as a 4th country, right? (I'm ahead of the schedule!) Although the only thing I purchased was Vogue (tear) I can't really complain as 2 colleagues who travelled with me were both female and more than understanding of my shopping habits and needs, and agreed to be dragged along to Westfield after a long looong day and even longer day before and patiently waited when I hit the shops (they're real stars!).

You'll laugh when you hear that this was my first time in London. I've been to the airport before, yes, I've been to Wales, Bristol, I travelled a lot between 3 continents but somehow (probably because of all the travelling) I never really got a chance to get to London. Until this week of course :)

As I mentioned the trip was for work purposes and so it was much more food than fashion focused... BUT when going around cafes etc in the city (it's a tough job I have) I kept an eye out for some fashionable little shops, people and all things pretty. I was rather upset when we strolled through a street full of second-hand shops and I didn't get a chance to visit even one... but at least I have an idea of where to go next time I'm around :) There were some cool, funky dressed people but overall I thought I would be much more impressed with their style. Maybe that's because Dublin is becoming so fashionable? ;) And we don't even have anything near Oxford Str!

Here are some pics snapped with my colleague's camera (did I say these girls are just stars? :) I had great time and they even took my usual travel-related-moaning really well!)

Some shops, some cafes, Chicago show which we went to see, a cool view of London and of course-me working hard :)

I had real doubts about putting the next pic up and I still have but I also have to say-fair play to all ladies working for the factory who dress like that daily, it was a real laugh for me to wear that (I'd say one of my worst fashion moments ever) but to wear it daily would be a whole different story...
