Mad men

As much as ladylike dresses appeal to me and as much appreciation as I have for them, it's not really my style. A dress fitted around my waist and my bust AND my arms puts me totally out of my comfort zone. As you can imagine, this here is not my regular outfit.

The dress was actually a very incidental purchase in a charity shop which I didn't really think I'll wear more than once. It has generated more compliments than all of my wardrobe all-together the first time I wore it so I decided to keep it for a while. I tone it down with simple heels & a tote for work. I recently wore it with sandals and cat-eye sunglasses to Imelda May and that worked too. I now believe that if dressed down with appropriate accessories, every dress can work for you.

Here, I let it do it's job in being pretty & fancy and I went all dressy with boxy clutch and satin heels.

Enjoy x

Writing Style

As I mentioned before I'm a bit of a bookworm. I have a sizable selection of fashion-related reads so when Bord Gais Energy Book Club asked me for an article on some stylish books, I was only too happy to help.

You can now read it on their website HERE.

Summer @ Dublin

The amazing hot weather in Dublin took me by surprise. I'm well aware that it's summer time but I also spent the last 9 summers in Dublin and I have learnt from my mistakes. Summer wardrobe in Ireland? More like spring wardrobe with a dash of autumn, boots were my absolute staple last summer (best for walking through puddles).

My enthusiasm with the opportunity of experiencing some real summery weather was interrupted with a dreadful realization: I haven't got appropriate clothes. I raided my wardrobe trying to put some outfits together but my holiday clothes are mostly beachwear (so not suitable for office, no matter how hot) and anything summery I bought before for Irish summers, was just too warm!

I found a few trusty pieces though, some of which I was considering getting rid of and this experience convinced me to hold on to them.

The first one was the dress below. Thanks to it's dropped waist and loose fitting shape, it's super comfy and I always reached for it as a trusty staple (usually with black opaques and a blazer though). It proved perfect for the real Irish summer and totally city-appropriate.

AW'13 at Penneys

I recently attended Penneys (Primark in the UK) press day and a preview of their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection.
Before I move on to the clothes, I have to comment on the event itself. I attend collection launches / previews regularly and I'm always really happy for the opportunity to do so. Based on my experience to date, this was by far the best preview I attended. The thing that really made it was the presence of both buyers and designers. They talked me through different collections, the inspiration behind them, they showed me to their mood boards and they had the pricing / fabric / any other info to hand (or in their head!). These were the people who made this range happen and you could just tell that they were proud of it. They were there to talk about it, sell it but also to hear the feedback.

Really well done to everyone involved.

Now, moving on to the clothes, the designers definitely sold them to me and I'm not sure if I can do as great of a job. Their photography should help though and you can see some of my fave looks below.

Beanie €3, PU Sleeve Check Jacket €29, , Print TShirt €6, Check Shirt €13, Jeans €15, Boots €20 (In Stores from July). I will be honest, the beanie is the only item I will probably go for from this look. If you're into the grunge revival though and looking to sport this style, that's a great selection right here.

Boucle Coat €40, Jumper €16, Blouse €10, Bag €12, High Ankle Peeptoe Boot €18 (In Stores from August). This is probably my favorite outfit and the coat is definitely on my shopping list. It had a really luxurious look and feel to it, it will be perfect in early autumn.

PU Sleeve Floral Jumper €14, Rings €5, L.E. Bracelet €6, Necklace €5 (In Stores from July). I felt spoiled for choice with the selection of jewelry available in the range and I have a long wishlist of jeweled necklaces and oversized rings I'll be buying.

PU Varsity  Jacket €31, Blouse €13, Embellished  Jumper €17 Trousers €17, Ankle Strap Courts €18, Necklace €6. This jumper and trousers stole were the icing on the caked! They're the perfect AW'13 statement pieces and I love how they're suitable for both the office, a night out and a cosy night in by the fire!

Featured by British Vogue

Most of you have probably seen this on my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter already (I couldn't shut up about it) but JUST in case you missed it ;) here's a small snapshot of my outfit being featured by British Vogue the other day. I was chuffed; it may only be their Facebook page but hey, good things come to those who wait ;)

9-to-5 #Safari

Life in the office rarely goes wild.

Nothing stops you from bringing a tad of safari and wilderness into the building, as long as it doesn't resemble a tribal outfit. Some animal print (as long as it's not on a dress), an accessory purchased during a holiday (1 accessory, leave that collection on the shelf, where it belongs!), earthy shades and some colorful prints will bring this look together.
A pair of 'city' sunglasses and a smart skirt clearly shows that it's an office look, as far from serengeti as you can be, walking down Coppinger Row..
