Contribution to Paper Magazine

I've been recently asked to contribute to Paper Magazine's article on music and nightlife in Dublin.

Their series are really great so if you want to find out a little about my taste in music or see what locals from other cool cities recommend, check it out HERE. It's totally worth a read.

The little gem...

I have a weakness for pretty, sparkly things but I honestly think it's one of a few elements that make a woman. I disagree with what many people believe to be women's best friends (maybe I'm just not there yet) but I certainly understand a love for accessories.
I don't want to lie to you but I'm confident that I have at least 40 necklaces and 60 rings. I also regularly buy more but there are a few treasured items I keep in their boxes and ensure that they're looked after.

I believe if you're reading this post you're most likely quiet similar.

I have SOME news for you darling... TK Maxx launched a dedicated jewellery counter exclusively in Blanchardstown! Offering a wide variety of brands, styles, anything from on-trend, through to costume jewellery and right to high end (those treasured, boxed) gems, I couldn't get enough of it.

This is not only the best place to spoil yourself,  it's a gift solution for pretty much everyone in your family or friends! The prices are amazing and will suit every pocket.

I couldn't stop snapping the gorge pieces so below is a mix of the look book shots and my own faves from the launch.

Black bangle (€9.99 vs RRP €40), crystal bangle (€16.99); Green bead & star bracelet (€26.99 vs. RRP €39.99)

Necklace (€39.99 vs RRP: €90)

September makeup pick me ups

I rarely talk about makeup since I'm not a beauty guru but I do like to bring something to your attention from time to time.

I have recently started using 4 new products so I will give you a quick, very personal view on them.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer (€6.49) - I can't really say much more than that it's ok. It's not great, it's not bad but it's cheap and ok.

Collection 2000 Fast Stroke eye liner (~€7) - I'm quite impressed with that. At the beginning it hurt my eyes a little but now I think about it I probably didn't shake it enough... which is important. I'm impressed with how well it lasts and I really like the brush which is not really a brush but something plastic that just works for me. Very well priced, recommended!

L'Oreal Lumi Magique highlighting pen (€12.99) - I loved this for the first few days. I really had so much fun with it but then it just takes that bit more time to do the makeup when using it... and so it's not as frequently used anymore but definitely a good product, again priced really reasonably.

Isadora Under Cover face primer (€16.95 launch price, €19.95 full price) - this promises to work as both a moisturizer and a skin perfecter. I can confirm that it does what it says on the packaging. My skin always suffers with a few dry patches and this really provides a perfectly even skin ready for foundation to be applied. I'm not a fan of most primers but this is really great and I found I've been using it every day since I got it. Definitely a keeper and another Isadora favorite.

Winter florals

There aren't many items that cause a flood of messages, emails and sighs of admiration. There certainly aren't many items I possess that do that.
One of my recent purchases caused a little flood of 'ohs' and 'ahs' though and here it is...

I spent the last few weeks wandering around stores, trying to get excited about some of the new items in stock. I followed one rule: avoid Zara.Since I realised that most of my wardrobe comes from Zara, I was concerned that my style became too monotonous and boring. As long as I stayed away from it though, I couldn't fall for autumn this year!

I broke the rule last weekend and as expected I am in love with the new season!

I decided not to do an obvious combo of courts & an oversized clutch and instead, I tried to make the look a little bit more fun. This is such a versatile dress, it could be dressed up and worn as evening wear (hair up, high heels, pretty clutch and huge earrings) or totally dressed down with flat shoes and cardi over it (a little cute, a little grungy).

I love how this dress represents some of the key trends for AW'13 but at the same time it's simple and classy enough to last. The florals on the black background give it the perfect romantic & wintery feel.

Not so manly after all

I've been keeping an eye on the Manley girl and I think it's about time she gets a well deserved mention. Emma Manley's edgy designs are sophisticated with a significant injection of cool & fun. All of Manley garments are produced in Ireland and using great quality fabrics. The influence of Emma's internship at Alexander McQuenn is clearly visible in the craftsmanship of the lovingly embellished pieces.

My interest in the brand has been steadily growing and some of the AW 13/14 designs got me very excited so I'm delighted to share them with you. I hope you'll start indulging in some 'Manley loving care' and here's a taster of what to expect.

If you'd like to find out a little bit more about Emma and her passion for design, check out this interview with Rosemary MacCabe.

Don't blush just yet

Powder pink is certainly THE colour of autumn this year. I've always been keen on this shade and I'm delighted to see a summer colour so successfully and easily transferred on to winter-wear.

Here's my still rather summery take on this hue. If showing legs or arms, ensure that you have some tan (slash bronzer) to avoid looking drained (this colour can do that sometimes). Some strong contrast is also recommended, I paired my pastel shaded outfit with 2 pops of neon pink to bring it back to life!
